Caring for Biothane and waterproof fabrics
A damp sponge, a mild soap, air drying. Both our materials clean up in two minutes — as long as you avoid three classic mistakes.
We rarely choose an accessory for how easy it is to care for. But we rarely regret it either when it cleans up in two minutes. Here is how to keep our pieces looking as good as new.
Biothane
It is polyester webbing with a TPU coating. Water doesn't get in, odours don't cling, and the material doesn't split.
- Day to day: a damp sponge is enough. Really.
- After mud or the sea: lukewarm water, mild soap (Marseille soap, neutral washing-up liquid), rinse, wipe dry.
- Stubborn stains: a little bicarbonate of soda on a damp cloth, rubbing along the length of the webbing.
The brass hardware develops a patina over time: that is normal, and rather lovely. If you prefer to keep it shiny, use a soft cloth and a drop of brass polish once a season.
Waterproof fabrics
Our exclusive prints are mounted on a water-repellent coated fabric, lined and topstitched. Rain runs off, and mud wipes away once dry.
- Day to day: a wipe with a damp sponge, no detergent.
- Thorough clean: by hand, in cold or lukewarm water, with mild soap. Do not scrub the coating with a stiff brush.
- Drying: flat, in the open air, away from radiators.
Three mistakes to avoid
- The tumble dryer. Heat lifts the coatings and strains the stitching. Never, on any of our textile pieces.
- Bleach and fabric softener. The first attacks the fibres and colours, the second clogs the water repellency.
- Putting things away damp. A harness folded wet into a bag ends up smelling, even in Biothane. Let it air-dry before putting it away.
What about engraved ID tags?
A soft, dry cloth is enough. Avoid abrasive products, which would wear away the engraving. If the tag jingles against the collar and the noise bothers you, a small silicone silencer solves the problem.
A damaged piece?
Write to us with a photo. Everything is hand-sewn in our Avignon workshop: in many cases, we can repair rather than replace.
